Something in us knew

Moses said
I will lead you to the land
that you do not yet know.
It is there for you to find —
that is why I stayed behind.

Pharoah said
Mitzrayim is to live and enjoy as it is. 
A Creator has no relevance to me —
so why should I seek 
what is not to be believed?

Something in us knew
So we disturbed the waters.
We held together and we left.  
Everything we knew fell away —
not at once, but along the way.

Darkness held —
not to the end
just enough
so we wouldn't turn back. 

And we trembled and we cried. 
We lost faith and we hid —
but the path has never stopped 
leading us
to the land that we do not know.

And the steps we take —
the ones Moses and Miriam led –
have become the path
to this day.
