Re’eh

Sunrise in Lafayette

I woke up at a quarter to four
never a good sleeper,
earlier than the dark expected.

Later I asked why—
So I could see, it was said.

See what, I asked?

You’ll have to ask next time
Each moment is different.

Something is asked of me
or is it that I have a question
that I didn’t know to ask?
