Never Finished, Never Complete

The child is scared.
With love and compassion, the adult
moves—in him,
bringing the child close, holding him tight –

Hashem, my friend, descends at Yom Kippur,
bringing with him the traumas and brokenness of the past
into reflection.

Through the tears and fears
we move towards wholeness.

Never finished, never complete
we listen to the Shofar’s call –

T’kiah – Wholeness, stability
Sh’varim – Brokenness, sorrow
T’ruah – A cry, a wake-up call
T’kiah Gadolah – The long return home

In acceptance of our imperfections,
in our faith,
may we move towards lightness
with love and compassion
for ourselves and each other.
