Koheleth Asks
Futile- ephemeral wonder,
tempting my flesh to grasp
the folly and drink the wine
Biting the apple, this son of David asks:
Is this a wearisome life or something more?
Is there a purpose to this wealth of mankind,
to what has been veiled?
My folly, my foolishness –
What is it that I worship?
Why is it that I study
Where do I find the good?
How do I know where the darkness lives?
Is there something to attain –
finding life's meaning again?
What does God ask of me?
Is it to give everything away?
Or to receive this day–
|its bread, its wine,
its work, its passing light?
So I return again,
again, again and again –
Reflections of
Yom Kippur, everyday.
A time for all seasons
in ephemeral wonder
into the nothingness of the unknowable.
Hilarious, it is, these worlds we live!
